Elana James grew up in Prairie Village, Kansas and began playing Suzuki violin at age four. Her mother is a professional violinist who used to play in the Kansas City Symphony. It took James almost twenty years to decide between the violin and the fiddle, but in her mid-twenties, after much soul searching, James found her calling in American roots music and has never looked back. She is the co-founder and owner of the Austin-based trio, Hot Club of Cowtown, which has toured the world for over 25 years. Elana has collaborated with legendary artists such as Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Gimble. She is excited to rebrand under her own name and showcase her diverse range of music, from traditional fiddle tunes to American songbook standards and her own compositions.
Whit Smith is a guitarist, singer, songwriter and known by guitarists for his driving rhythmic style, and for his ability to move through chord progressions employing endlessly creative variety harmonies. After nearly 30 years of vigorous touring, performing and recording, Whit has arrived at a style that pays clear homage to a variety of influential guitarists from the 1930’s and 40’s, while serving as the perfect vehicle for his own bracingly original ideas. A native of New England, Whit has lived in several cities including New York and Tulsa before settling in Austin, Texas in 1997. He freely admits to suffering from Vintage Guitar and Amplifier Acquisition Syndrome.
