About the musicians…
Hope Cowan is a professional harpist based in Houston. Hope frequently performs as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and event harpist. She is sought after as a harp teacher, and teaches lessons to students of all ages. She is harp faculty at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music.
Originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin, Ms. Cowan relocated to Houston, Texas in 2009 to pursue her music education. She has a Master’s of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelor’s of Music from the University of Houston, both under the instruction of Paula Page.
As an orchestral musician, Ms. Cowan is the principal harpist of the Symphony of Southeast Texas. Formerly, she was the principal harpist of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with various symphonies including the Milwaukee, Mississippi, Corpus Christi, Victoria, San Antonio, Brazos Valley, Lake Charles, and Corpus Christi Symphonies. She has also performed with the Theater Under the Stars Houston, River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, Opera in the Heights, and Mercury Chamber Orchestra. In 2022 she appeared as a guest soloist with New Mexico State University Orchestra, performing the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto.
Zachary Montasser earned his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in 2011 from University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. Zachary pursued a Performance Certificate in 2013 from DePaul University in Chicago. Zachary has enjoyed a varied and fruitful performance career, and has performed in halls such as Symphony Center (Chicago, Illinois), the Wortham Theater Center, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, the Miller Outdoor Theater, among many others.
As an orchestral musician, Zachary has performed with the Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra, The South Florida Symphony. He performs with Opera in the Heights, and is currently a core First Violinist of The Symphony of Southeast Texas. As an educator, Zachary has taught private lessons and master classes since 2013. He was a program director for the impactful People’s Music School, and has had private students pursue music degrees at the collegiate level.
In 2019, Zachary pioneered an enrichment lecture series called “Performance Conversations” which were interactive performances with the elderly. Since that time, Zachary has created a new series of performance lectures called “Musicology LIVE!” which serves the elderly as an interactive music appreciation course with live performance. Zachary has been featured in Voyage Houston online magazine.
