Express Children’s Theatre

THE POWER OF INTERACTIVE LEARNING
Throughout our shows, actors encourage kids to participate from their seats.  Kids can call out suggestions, cheer for the hero, provide encouragement during setbacks, and celebrate goals along the way. By giving children a “voice”, they’re entertained while acquiring knowledge and skills that apply to all parts of their lives, such as empathy, self-expression, problem-solving, and making good choices.  We address the whole child while providing a rollicking good time!
HISTORY
Express Children’s Theatre is Houston’s oldest and largest multicultural performing arts and education organization dedicated to children and families. We are celebrating our 34th year of creating and presenting professional, culturally diverse shows designed to entertain and educate.
GROWTH
We were founded in 1991 with two shows and a shoestring budget. Now we present 250 performances a year, reaching over 75,000 children in venues throughout Texas. Express has been the proud recipient of two Austin Circle of Drama Awards, three B. Iden Payne awards for children’s theatre and a cover story in Stage Directions magazine. Express Theatre’s Hilltop Festival for Children at Miller Outdoor Theatre every summer was named “Best Theatre Production for Children” by the Houston Press.
TOURS
Our Touring Series brings the magic and excitement of quality interactive theatre and storytelling directly to children in their schools and communities. We also present performances at Miller Outdoor Theatre and at numerous Public Libraries, Day Care Centers, Hospitals and Community Centers throughout Texas.  We also conduct Theatre Arts Residencies at several elementary schools in the Houston area.
SHOWS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC
While all of our shows tour to schools and day care centers, we also perform shows for the general public on certain Saturdays throughout the year. To find out when and where and buy tickets, click the “SHOWS” tab on the menu above.
